Policy Brief: Moving Forward
A vision for a safer and more connected Calgary
Dear Calgary,
Mobility is about more than getting from point A to point B. It affects how we live our lives, and how safe our streets are for our kids, our parents, and our neighbours.
Whether we drive, take transit, walk our kids to school, or run errands, mobility determines our opportunities, safety, and quality of life.
For many, though, the options for moving around our city aren’t working as well as they should.
From aging and bumpy roads, sidewalks that end abruptly, disconnected pathways and bike routes, to poor snow clearing, people are frustrated. Transit isn't always where or when we need it. And too many Calgarians don't feel safe, whether that’s on the road, on the train, or on the sidewalk.
Potholes might not be glamorous, but ensuring people and goods can move safely and efficiently is a core responsibility of local government.
And it goes beyond convenience. After housing, transportation is the biggest cost for Calgary families. Making it easier and more budget-friendly to get around means real financial relief to households, and a growing economy.
As mayor, this is my vision for a Calgary where kids can walk or bike safely to school. Where buses and CTrains arrive on time. Where snow is cleared quickly. Where seniors and people with disabilities can move without fear of falling or getting stuck. Where our infrastructure keeps pace with growth—and serves everyone.
